The OMHA
AAA League is excited to announce a five minute, 3-on-3 overtime period will be
added to regular season games should the score be tied at the end of
regulation. This will be in place for the U15, U16 and U18 age groups only.
Teams will be awarded a point should the game end in a tie after overtime or if they lose in overtime. The winner in the overtime period will be awarded an additional point.

The decision to add an overtime period will increase the excitement of the games and give the player additional exposure of possibly playing junior hockey, where the format is featured.
“We are looking forward to adding this element of overtime to an already fast-paced gameplay within our league,” said OMHA AAA League Interim President, Daryl Holmes. “We know that players and teams are excited for this new format and have their support in this announcement.”
This is a one-year pilot project and set to be the first in OMHA history with overtime in regular season games.
All teams and coaches have already been informed of this new rule.
The puck drops on the 2023-24 season on October 2nd.
